Love Ageing

A fresh thinking co-located village product from Sydney’s Scalabrini

We were lucky enough to be given a tour this week of The Village, a co-located village and care development opened by Not For Profit Scalabrini.

The Village is a 16-unit retirement village attached to a 126-bed care facility in Drummoyne, 8km from the Sydney CBD.

They are offering one- and two-bedroom apartments, called the Palazzo range, from $1.3 million to $1.8 million, with a 35% DMF over four years. These apartments are big, with big balconies and terraces, most with big views.

They are designed to age in place. With care services, up to reasonably high care, delivered into the apartment from the adjacent facility. All activities are also available.

You ‘buy’ the apartment and that cash acts like the RAD when the time comes to transition.

It means couples stay together a lot longer and the remaining partner has a clear care path for their future.

As importantly, the declining partner remains in contact with family for a lot longer – the kids (and grandkids) can visit or stay right up to the final days in your own home.
