The Not For Profit operator, which specialises in turning around regional and rural aged care homes experiencing financial hardship, has announced a new $17 million project.

Respect will refurbish and expand its Avonlea Aged Care Home in Nhill, in the Wimmera region, 340km north west of Melbourne.

The project, which is backed by an $8 million Federal Government grant, includes:

  • Rebuilding 33 existing beds and adding three new beds, increasing the total number of beds to 48;
  • Refurbishments to existing wings;
  • A new lounge, sitting and activities rooms;
  • Improved green spaces and outdoor areas; and
  • Installing solar panels to lower both greenhouse gas emissions and operating costs.

Avonlea Aged Care Home was founded in 1959, with an innovative motel-style design, and was an early adopter of rooms with ensuites and private courtyards.

Respect CEO and Managing Director, Jason Binder said the redevelopment continues that tradition of innovation and community care.
