A three year study by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) has found that elderly Sydney residents are sitting on almost 500,000 spare rooms with no plans to sell up and free much needed housing stock. 81% lived in dwellings with three or more bedrooms. The RVA is advocating hard for rezoning to allow villages in established communities to facilitate easier downsizing, freeing stock in infrastructure for younger families.
