The 236-unit Cardinal Gilroy Retirement Village and 126-bed John Woodward Residential Aged Care at Merrylands West, 27km west of the CBD, are set to expand to 460 village units and 153 aged care beds after a local planning panel recommended it proceed

18 two- to six storey buildings are proposed for the 47-year-old village, plus a doctor’s practice, a kiosk, neighbourhood shop and 688-space carpark.

The panel has recommended the heights on the buildings be capped at 15 metres instead of 20 metres.

The application will now go to back to council for the final decision.
