New home for National Centre for Healthy Ageing opens

1 min read

The Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt, has opened the new home for the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA) at Frankston Hospital, 41km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD.

Through a partnership between the Federal Government, Peninsula Health and Monash University, the multi-million-dollar academic centre will work towards transforming health service development, implementation, research and evaluation for older people, as well as those with addiction and mental health issues.

One of the key research points of NCHA will be to explore new and innovative ways to harness technology and data to help seniors remain independent.

The Morrison Government invested $32 million in the healthy ageing component of the centre, delivered through the $1.25 billion Community Health and Hospitals Programme.

The new space complements ongoing collaborative research between Monash University and Peninsula Health at Monash University’s Peninsula Campus, and soon to be announced translational facilities, which will include new simulated environments for healthy ageing researchers to test solutions to improve the care provided to ageing communities.
