400% increase in aged care job applications: Anglicare Sydney

1 min read

Christian Not For Profit aged care and community services provider Anglicare Sydney has seen a four-fold increase in applications for residential aged care jobs in the last 12 months, due to the 1 July 2023 15% wage rise, record migration numbers and internal process improvements.

Earlier this month, premium digital magazine SATURDAY, reported Anglicare Sydney is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve its recruitment processes. DCM Executive Recruitment is also answering the call from operators and finding quality candidates - fast

Anglicare now has "a good supply of people for residential care" and is "not experiencing a shortage", Yvette McDonald (pictured right), Chief People and Customer Officer, Anglicare Sydney, told The SOURCE. "Home care is more challenging."

She said Anglicare is focusing on residential manager development.

"Good managers run stable homes that provide quality care. Workers want to stay working in that sort of a home," Yvette said.

"We have also focused on providing more permanent roles, moving away from casual and agency arrangements. This is a win for both our residents and employees.

"We have also improved our recruitment processes - improving our speed to hire means we have access to the best quality candidates."

Yvette said the nation's record migration intake - 2,000 migrants a day in the year to September - was the key.

"The labour market is back to pre-COVID levels and we have access to a greater number of candidates," Yvette said.

"The Work Value case has meant that we have higher quality and number of applicants applying for roles because the work they do is being appropriately valued."
