Tweed Shire Council issues warning to manufactured home providers – the 65% rule

1 min read

There are at least 35 caravan parks and manufactured home estates in Tweed Shire, near the NSW/Queensland border. The council warns there is unlikely any space to build more homes on each site.

The shire council, which sought to ban such developments last August, has now issued a warning.

"If you are wanting to build or install a structure in a Tweed manufactured home estate, it's important to be aware of any approvals or certifications you may need,” the shire council states.

"The rules regarding what you can build in manufactured home estates in NSW are very different to those of residential spaces."

It issued the following notice.

"Individual sites in manufactured home estates are often 'built out' to capacity at the time of development. This means that the manufactured home and any structures already take up the maximum of 65% site coverage. This means no more rooved structures are allowed to be installed at the individual site. For further information regarding site coverage, please speak with your manufactured home estate operator."
