SEEK: 62% rise in community and healthcare jobs in five years since NDIS launch

1 min read

Community services and development jobs have jumped 49% since April 2017, the second biggest industry to have job ad growth, according to the Group’s latest Employment Report.

Compare this to the national new job ad average of 16.5%.

SEEK has put the rise down to the ageing population and the roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Goldman Sachs estimates the NDIS created around 50,000 jobs in 2017, with another 100,000 expected by 2020.

In total, aged and disability support jobs made up 33% of ads in the sector, while the number of ads for aged care nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy also increased.

However that does not mean the roles are being filled. The Productivity Commission estimates we will need almost one million aged care workers by 2050.

Will we able to meet the demand for both aged care and the NDIS?
