88-year-old man fronts court charged with murdering woman in Melbourne aged care home

1 min read

The man, Raymond Sparkes, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ court last week after he was charged with the murder of 87-year-old Margaret Sparkes at Martin Luther Homes Boronia – 38 kilometres east of Melbourne CBD – last week.

The relationship between Mr Sparkes and his alleged victim is not yet known.

The Herald Sun reports that Mr Sparkes “sat silently in court, resting his head against the wall and occasionally closing his eyes during the brief filing hearing” and that, when asked if he understood what was happening, replied that he did not.

No bail option was granted. Mr Sparkes will next face court in August.
