Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission now single point of contact for aged care

1 min read

The ACQSC has taken over responsibility for the approval of providers, aged care compliance – including the monitoring of standards – and compulsory reporting of assaults after the functions were moved from the Department of Health on 1 January 2020.

The change was a key recommendation of the Carnell-Paterson review into South Australia’s Oakden Older Persons Mental Health Facility after it found the current aged care regulatory framework was “fragmented”.

There is still a question mark however about whether all the Department’s functions have made the transition.

Evidence to the Royal Commission last year suggested the Department was looking at hanging onto its monitoring of providers’ financial compliance – leaving a potential gap in ensuring providers stay compliant.
