Aged care workforce enquiry by Senate following damning elder abuse report

The Senate is as is to establish an enquiry into the future of the aged care workforce in Australia.

It comes about following their community affairs committee handed down a report into widespread abuse of disabled people, which also captured aged care abuse.

The focus will be on the fact that 350,000 people work in aged care but half of those will retire next 15 years. At the same time the national disability insurance scheme rollout will require an equal number of carers.

The question is where those carers will come from and what will be their training and oversight.
