20-bed May Noonan Centre, in Terang, VIC, to be sold

1 min read

The aged care home, which is about 212km southwest of Melbourne, will now be sold, after operator Lyndoch Living announced in May 2023 the home would be closed due to difficulties attracting staff and falling occupancy over the last 18 months.

Lyndoch chair Sue Cassidy told Stock and Land, "Increasingly older people prefer to remain in their own home and this has impacted occupancy levels at May Noonan. The home has recently had as few as 18 residents."

May Noonan Centre has 40 beds. Opened in 1979, Lyndoch Living took it over from Mecwacare in 2018.

Lyndoch Living, the largest provider of public aged care beds in Victoria's south west, will help residents find new accommodation in the local area, including at their own aged care home in Warrnambool, about 50km to the southwest.

The 1.76ha site has 40 single accommodation rooms, 32 with shared dual bathroom facilities and eight with ensuite bathrooms. It has a commercial kitchen and laundry, large dining area and several lounges plus numerous office and utility rooms.

The SOURCE: There is a trend towards older aged care homes being sold and the buildings used for other purposes, often affordable housing due to the shortfall of affordable accommodation.
