Aged care worker charged after allegedly "stomping" on 95-year-old female resident

Detectives in Cannington, a suburb about 15km south east of the Perth CBD, have charged a man over the alleged "stomping" of a 95-year-old female aged care resident last month.

A statement from police alleges the 33-year-old man, at the time an employee of Bethanie's aged care home in Como, 6km south of Perth's CBD, assaulted the resident by stomping on her feet a number of times.

The Cannington man was charged with aggravated common assault.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday 5 March 2024.

A statement from the provider said: "Bethanie is aware of unacceptable behaviour towards residents.

"The individual was immediately stood down from duties and their employment was ultimately terminated.

"An internal investigation was immediately launched, and we are also working with WA Police while they conduct a full inquiry. The Commission has been advised of the incident.

"Bethanie has apologised to our residents and their families and is deeply regretful that this has occurred. The care and wellbeing of our residents, their families and our staff is our highest priority."
