Arcare to open 733 beds in 2025 as newest home welcomes residents

1 min read

The country's largest family-owned aged care operator has opened its fourth aged care home this year, welcoming the first residents to its two-storey, 91-bed Arcare Croydon, 35km east of the Melbourne CBD.

Arcare Croydon is located adjacent to Aveo-owned Cherry Tree Grove Retirement Village, and features a cinema, café, private dining room and multiple lounges.

Arcare, which is owned by the Knowles Group, now has 57 aged care homes across Victoria, New South Wales, the ACT, and Queensland.

In 2025 alone, the operator will open 733 beds – four homes, including Croydon, with a combined 405 beds already open, and three more scheduled by year’s end adding a further 328 beds.

The homes to open in the remainder of 2025 are:

  • Arcare Werribee, 32km southwest of the Melbourne CBD – 120 beds,
  • Arcare Wright, 13km southwest of the Canberra CBD – 98 beds, and
  • Arcare Clyde, 48km south east of the Melbourne CBE – 110 beds.

The operator also has several facilities under development including:

  • Arcare Gold Creek: the group’s third ACT home, which is set to begin construction mid-2025 and to open late 2026;
  • Arcare Huntlee: a 96-bed home in the NSW Hunter Valley adjacent to the Knowles Group’s retirement village brand, Sencia's Green Ridge retirement village, which is also under construction. The aged care home will begin construction in mid-2026 and is set to open late 2027.

On top of its ambitious building program, Arcare has acquired several aged care homes and sites in recent years, including Not For Profit Mercy Health’s former Maryville Hostel in Boronia, 30km east of the Melbourne CBD, in mid-2024.

The Knowles Group exited the home care sector earlier this year with the sale of its BodeWell Community Care business to Regis Aged Care.
