Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA), the peak body for aged care providers, is seeking aged care and home care providers to partner with to help 200 nurses build their careers through the Nursing Transition to Practice Program.
The program has been designed by ACCPA to make it easy for providers to find new nurse talent and to support nurses to enter and build their careers in aged care.
With every aged care home required to have at least one registered nurse on-site and on duty 24/7, and an estimated shortage of 6,000 RNs to meet incoming increased RN care minute requirements from 1 October 2024, there is currently a "critical shortage of registered nurses in aged care," said ACCPA CEO Tom Symondson.
"To help grow the nursing workforce, we are seeking aged and community care organisations to partner with us and help these nurses kickstart their careers in the sector."
Partner organisations gain access to a Nursing Program Register, which provides a register of contact details, qualifications and employment history of graduate RNs, graduate ENs or transitioning RNs, who are ready to work in aged care.
Nurses employed from the Nursing Program Register must be enrolled in the next intake of ACCPA’s Nursing Transition to Practice Program.
"Our program offers personalised service and ongoing support to aged care organisations, including recruiting nurse applicants wanting to work in the industry,” Tom said
“This is an outstanding opportunity to build capacity in our aged care workforce, and we encourage providers to participate and connect with graduate registered and enrolled nurses who are available for nursing roles right now.”
