Kantar Public awarded new $440,000 contract to “inform future aged care policy”

The Federal Government is spending $440,000 to engage Kantar Public to conduct "Aged Care Policy Research" for the political consultanancy's second aged care project for the Department of Health and Aged Care.

A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Aged Care told The SOURCE, "Kantar Public is undertaking some research for the department to help inform future aged care policy."

In February 2023, the Government contracted Kantar Public, which is owned by European private equity firm Trilantic Europe, to conduct research into the public's perception of consumers paying more out of their own pockets for aged care services.

The research found that when people know the full cost of aged care services, they are willing to pay between 30 and 40% of the cost of the service, and that people are willing to pay higher co-contributions for services where the costs of services is transparent, and they understand what they receive for their co-contribution.

The findings were a factor in the Aged Care Taskforce's deliberations, however the research has never been released in full to the public. The move comes after Minister for Aged Care, Anika Wells, announced a delay in the aged care reforms

The contract details are available here.
