Only in SATURDAY: 2,000 residential aged care customers trapped in hospital

Hospitals around Australia are struggling to get seniors whose acute issues have been resolved into an aged care bed or NDIS placement.

With few aged care beds being built, the number of elderly people stuck in hospital is rising, a trend that's set to continue.

We have canvassed State and Territory Health Departments to gauge the number of older Australians waiting for an aged care bed in their wards, leading us to calculate there are 2,000 hospital beds occupied by aged care candidates well after they are ready to be discharged.
