Respect changes Cooma 72 bed aged care home’s name – and plans $16M upgrade

1 min read

Tasmania based Not For Profit Respect Aged Care recently announced the name of the Sir William Hudson Memorial Centre (SWHMC) aged care home in Cooma NSW, 114 km south of Canberra, will be updated to Hudson House and has shared details of an upgrade with The SOURCE.

Respect has a portfolio of approximately 20 aged care homes.

“We wanted to take the opportunity to shorten the name and modernise it whilst still respecting the legacy of the home, and Sir William Hudson is a very important historical figure in the Cooma community,” Respect Aged Care Chief Executive Officer Jason Binder told The SOURCE.

The home will now undergo a 24-month upgrade to bring it up to contemporary standards. All four bed and double rooms will become single rooms with ensuite.

“The project is scoped in two stages, the first to 72 rooms, which will be a $10 million project, and the second to 90 rooms which will be a further $6 million,” Jason said.

Mitchell House

The operator has also recently completed an upgrade of its 59-bed Mitchell House aged care facility in Morwell, Victoria, in the Latrobe Valley, 152km east of Melbourne.
