Another regional town gets extra aged care beds with Govt Grant

Community-owned Not For Profit Aminya Village Hostel, operated by Mid Murray Homes for the Aged Incorporated, has opened its new Carlet Wing in regional South Australia.

Originally an 18-bed aged care home with an adjoining 18 Independent Living Units, the home, located 85km east of Adelaide, added a 20-bed residential aged care extension including a 10-bed dementia support unit.

Federal Member for Barker, South Australia, Tony Pasin, at the opening said: “It was a pleasure today to officially open Aminya Aged Care’s Carlet Wing in Mannum.

“This important expansion adds 20 additional beds, strengthening care and support for our ageing community in the Murraylands.”

Mid Murray Homes for the Aged Incorporated was awarded a $29,700 Aged Care Capital Assistance Program Grant from the Federal Government last year. Round 3 of the grants program was targeted at upgrading or building new aged care homes and building staff housing in regional, rural and remote communities.

As of 6 April, South Australia had 391 patients in hospital waiting for residential aged care, including 91 waiting for dementia care.

While all new beds are welcome, many more are needed.
