Is this Machiavellian? Bupa doesn’t have retirement villages in Australia but they do have 25 villages in New Zealand (but not large villages). Lend lease has five villages in New Zealand (and they are large). Lend Lease Australia recently sold its 31 aged care facilities, exiting the business when other village operators are looking to expand into aged care. Bupa is the largest private aged care operator in Australia. Now one of the country’s strongest Merger & Acquisition lawyers, and a Bupa director, has joined the Board of Lend Lease.

Nicola Wakefield Evans has been an M&A lawyer with King & Wood Mallesons for 28 years, including Managing Partner of their Honk Kong office. She has been described by Asian magazines as the region’s leading M&A lawyer. She leaves Mallesons next month.

Lend Lease would not appoint a Director because it benefits just one business unit but it is an interesting alignment.
