The Fair Work Ombudsman has ruled that 34 staff at two Wide Bay villages be paid $215,000 in back pay. It is reported that the mostly older women who were returning to the workforce were being underpaid by up to $145 each per shift. With no formal qualifications, they were being paid $70 for a 15 hour shift from 5pm to 8am. Both operators cooperated with the review. Audits are in vogue. In NSW a village has been ordered to back pay $28,000 to a caretaker over just three months. In Victoria a care facility is being prosecuted for allegedly underpaying $50,000 to one care worker over four years.
