Latrobe Private Nursing Home given notice

SANCTIONS have been imposed on a Melbourne nursing home accused of putting residents at risk.
Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency assessors expressed concerns with 30 of 44 performance standards at the Latrobe Private Nursing Home in Alphington.
They found meals were inadequate, emergency exit doors were locked, medications were not managed properly and wounds not treated. There was also a shortage of staff with appropriate skills.
Aged Care Minister Justine Elliot said the home would lose approved-provider status unless it appointed an administrator for six months. It would also get no federal subsidies for new residents for six months.
Ms Elliot said the welfare of residents was the Government's primary concern.
The home's director of nursing Midge Ross declined to comment yesterday.
