Microsoft will force aged care providers to pay full commercial rates for previously discounted
software, it came to light this week, when it revoked their not-for-profit status. The move is
expected to rip an estimated $70 million from the sectors IT budget over the next 18 months.
The Aged Care Industry IT Council says annual licensing fees will rise by about 400 percent.
Microsoft has said it will place its decision on hold until Christmas, pending discussions. It is
worth noting that Microsoft and its software partners have been regular exhibitors at industry
conferences for years, promoting in particular integrated health management solutions.
