In June we reported on the nightmare of Bill and Doris McIntosh, who were being evicted from their family home following the collapse of Fernleigh Gardens Estate. They had sold their home to a director of Fernleigh based on receiving an ILU in the village. However creditors have claimed the $415,000 home as part of the director’s assets. Aged 86, the McIntosh’s were likely to be destitute. In stepped Adelaide’s LeCornu family who were building The Ashbrook Retirement Apartments, currently in Stage 3 of 6 stages. Without knowing the McIntosh’s, they offered a new $550,000 apartment for free until the end of their days; they moved in last Tuesday. LeCornu family member, Julie Condetti, tells us “It just seemed like the right thing to do”. She added that a member of the public (a builder) then came forward and offered to pay the first 12 months fees ($7,200). She also commented that the other residents have been very welcoming and supportive.
