The lack of aged care beds ion Broken Hill is so grim that a petition is being passed around the town to try to get some government action. At present new clients have to be sent to Wilcannia. Broken Hills population 20,000. Wilcannia population, 596. Broken Hill is shrinking given the mining industry has run out of stuff to mine. The town is now promoting its cheap housing as an arts destination plus tourism. Southern Cross Care has just presented an option to build a new facility but needs council support.
