NSW Government pays residents $7,000 to move

1 min read

If you like the idea of being paid to move, read on. The NSW Office of State Revenue is paying eligible applicants $7,000 to relocate from metropolitan to regional areas, this includes people moving into a retirement village. Who knew? A resident of Cooranbong’s Rosedale Gardens Retirement Village did and successfully applied for the grant which helped pay for relocation costs.

Eligibility requirements dictate that the value of the regional home must not exceed $600,000 for a home, or $450,000 for vacant land; and that the applicant must occupy the regional home for at least 12 months. However the criteria for what is considered metropolitan and regional is curious, to say the least.

For instance, a resident of ‘metropolitan’ Budgewoi in the Central Coast shire of Wyong can move to neighbouring Wyee (Lake Macquarie City), 12 minutes away, and be paid for the privilege. The Regional Relocation scheme concludes in June, 2015. More details available here osr.nsw.gov.au /benefits/rrg/
