The Australian Nursing Federation has commenced lobbying for a ratio of one registered nurse for every seven aged care residents, which could substantially change the economics of care provision. The union states there are cases where there is only one nurse for every 30 patients. Current nurse wages are approximately 30% lower in aged care to general hospitals making this 1:7 ratio currently unlikely.
