Palliative and end-of-life care experts have welcomed a proposal from the Productivity Commission (PC) for increased funding. The PCs draft report, Caring for older Australians stated that Palliative and end-of-life care needs of older Australians are not being adequately met under the current arrangements. The draft report recommends: "The Australian government should ensure that, through the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority, residential and community care providers receive appropriate case-mix payments for delivering palliative and end-of-life care."
