While Mayor of Brisbane (and now Premier), Campbell Newman pushed hard for more ageing services in the inner city. The first approved after a taskforce review is a St Lukes proposal in conjunction with private developer Greengate, to build 48 beds plus 61 assisted living units at Woolloongabba. The Catholic Archdiocese says it has a number of other parcels close to the CBD that could also be used if this project is a success.
