There are 54 countries in the Commonwealth; all face the same challenges of an ageing population but unfortunately many lack the knowledge base that the more advanced nations possess for providing care. Several Australian executives have taken upon themselves to establish a support Association, titled Commonwealth Association for the Ageing (CommAge for short). It was officially launched at the ACSA conference.
Led by Andrew Larpent OBE (CEO of Southern Cross Care SA & NT) and Klaus Zimmerman, CommAge will promote learning, experience and best practice in aged care service design. Commonwealth countries are often used to working together and sharing experience with developed countries.
From a standing start CommAge has established professional contacts in Canada, Bangladesh, Ghana, Kenya, India, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa and UK.
