Police allegedly found one kilogram of methamphetamine under the seat of a car of Melbourne and Perth aged care nurse Emma Louise L'aiguille and a Nigerian man, Anthony Ndidi Esikalam, while they were driving in central Kuala Lumpur on July 17. Two other Nigerian men, including L'aiguille's partner, escaped. In Malaysia the penalty is mandatory death for possession of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. They have to date executed three Australians for drug offences.
