Tougher Aged Care – Minister increases inspections by 75%

of Health and Ageing increased 315%, from 1260 cases to 3947 from 2005/6 to 2006/7. In
the first 6 months of this year the complaints have tripled again. Justine Elliot, herself an ex
policewoman, has announced the number of inspections of aged care facilities will rise from
4,000 to 7,000 a year in response. The question has to be asked, why are the complaints
increasing? Funding and staff no doubt will be the answers.
