Up to $700M to retrofit sprinklers in NSW care facilities

1 min read

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell has officially asked the Federal Government to fund the retrofitting of 636 care facilities with sprinklers following the Quakers Hill fire that claimed 11 residents in November. Victoria and Queensland are legally required to retrofit. Sprinklers have been required in NSW since 2002 for new developments. The NSW Government is budget strapped and is unlikely to fund the work, estimated at $236M to $700M.
