The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has approved plans to demolish part of the 80-year-old Park Orchards Chalet and develop the site into a two-storey aged-care facility, despite strong objections from Manningham Council and the community. VCAT ruled the owners of the building, Park Orchards Aged Care Services proposal for a two-storey, 91-bed aged-care facility was appropriate because of the need for aged care in the area.
