What about high auction clearances you ask? Word of caution: auctions account for about 10% of all properties sold – and usually homes at the premium end.
Consider this: there are approx. 2,000,000 homes in NSW and the Reserve Bank says just 6% on average sell a year – that’s 120,000 p.a. or 2,300 each week.
The average NSW homes that go to auction – 200 to 250 each week. In May 68% were sold at auction, just 150 homes. So why all the media coverage of auction results? Well, remember Fairfax Media owns Australian Property Monitors (APM) who report auctions and auction programs require intense marketing – that’s advertising in Fairfax papers and on its Domain.com.au web site.
