Asbestos identified at Sydney Upper North Shore aged care home

1 min read

Sydney of City Council (SOCC) has revealed testing by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has identified bonded asbestos at a private aged care facility in St Ives, on Sydney's Upper North Shore, 18km north of the CBD.

The aged care home has not been named, but the SOCC said the site has been secured.

Bonded asbestos - or 'non-friable' asbestos - refers to asbestos-containing materials where the asbestos is firmly bound in the material. These materials are unlikely to release measurable levels of asbestos fibre into the atmosphere if they are left undisturbed, and therefore generally pose a lower risk to health.
