ASQA ramps up crackdown on care training providers
ASQA cancelled Kingsway’s registration on 9 July and says the investigation identified “potential safety risks” – including to some of the most vulnerable members of the community – requiring “urgent action”.
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has cancelled 6,992 qualifications awarded by Sydney-based Kingsway Vocational Training, which also traded as VETNET Education Services – including around 4,000 disability and aged care qualifications.
The decision follows a compliance investigation which found Kingsway Vocational Training:
- did not meet the conditions of registration
- issued qualifications without assessment, and
- failed to ensure students had satisfied all course requirements.
ASQA cancelled Kingsway’s registration on 9 July and says the investigation identified “potential safety risks” – including to some of the most vulnerable members of the community – requiring “urgent action”.
The regulator is now issuing notices of intent to cancel qualifications attained between 27 January 2023 and 9 July 2025. 15 qualifications have been impacted, including Certificate III in Individual Support – a requirement for many aged care roles.
In August, we reported ASQA had already cancelled 3,800 aged care qualifications granted by 10 “critically non-compliant” providers. At the time, Opal HealthCare, Australia’s largest aged care operator, and mid-sized Victorian provider Homestyle Aged Care said only small numbers of staff were affected and they had worked with reputable providers to help impacted staff regain their qualifications.
Since November 2024, more than 29,000 qualifications and statements of attainment awarded to over 26,000 people have now been cancelled under ASQA’s crackdown on dodgy Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
