Singapore retirement village takes out world’s best building of the year

Kampung Admiralty has been named Building of the Year 2018 award at the World Architecture Festival, out of 535 projects from 57 countries.

The 11-storey mixed-use retirement village was the first co-located project by Singapore’s Housing Development Board (HDB) and combines over 100 studio apartments for the elderly with childcare and seniors’ centres, a hawker centre and medical centre.

Designed by WOHA Architects, it was created to “foster greater community bonding and reignite the kampung (village) spirit of yesteryear” – clearly, they are doing something right.

Breaking news: 83,000 Home Care Packages the latest aged care measure to be delayed

In a further twist for Australia’s aged care sector, Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care, Mark Butler, has confirmed that the rollout of 83,000 new Home Care Packages – originally scheduled to commence on 1 July 2025 – will now be delayed until 1 November 2025.
