Residents look at the final plans for Oak Tree Retirement Village Platz Street, Darling Heights

Founded in 2004 by Mark Bindon, Franco De Pasquale and Marco De Pasquale, the operator says the ambition was never to be the biggest – but to be the best in independent retirement living.

Owned by Aware Super, which bought the remaining 30% of the business from the founders in August 2023, Oak Tree now operates in 34 locations across the Eastern Seaboard in four states.

In November last year, The Weekly SOURCE reported it was investing $20 million-plus in the final stage of Oak Tree Retirement Village Darling Heights, 5km south-southwest of Toowoomba’s CBD.

Acting Head of Villages, Cameron Goffage, said the operator currently has five projects it is investing in:

  • Darling Heights: construction has started on the final 35 units, with completion due in early 2027.
  • Dubbo: the last 37 units have begun construction in the regional NSW city, with completion due in March 2026;
  • Mudgee: construction has been completed on the final 16 units in the regional NSW town;
  • Martin St Armidale: construction has begun on the final 47 units in the regional town, with completion due in March 2027; and
  • Taylor St Armidale: construction has also commenced on the final 32 units, with completion due in March 2026.
