The South Australian land lease operator has recognised the desperate need to provide an all-age community.

“We are building 320 homes at Renmnark, with a river aspect, that we have decided to be all-age,” said Best Life Communities’ Managing Director Simon Chappel.

“Riverland Renmark will have two separate areas: one for those over 55, say five streets, and then the rest for all other age groups.

“There are a lot of transient workers up and holidaymakers who might want to return. We are maximising our intake.”

Best Life Communities is building two homes a week with another two homes being sold every week.

“As we do everything ourselves, even the sales, we are able to undercut our rivals and the homeowners are the ones who benefit. At Playford Waters, a homeowner who bought in for $260,000 has just sold for $360,000,” Simon said.

Best Life Communities currently has two land lease communities:

  • Playford Waters, Playford, in Adelaide’s northern suburbs: 80-plus homes, all sold;
  • Victor Harbor, a town on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula: 140 homes built, with total of 320.

Simon also said its planned site in Angas Street, in Adelaide’s CBD, may yet be the first vertical land lease community in the state – and Australia.

“We were told we could have land lease and then the government said we couldn’t. Now, the changes in legislation is allowing us to go higher and there is nothing to stop it being a land lease community. Nothing is decided yet,” he said.
