Bethanie Community Housing’s new initiative for over-55s
Construction has started has started on 50 apartments for over-55s and low-income tenants in Perth, Western Australia.
Bethanie Fremantle will be a six-storey development featuring 28 two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes and 22 one-bedroom, one-bathroom homes.
The 50 apartments are designed to meet the diverse community needs for those aged over 55, and comprise:
- 18 affordable purpose-built apartments; and
- 32 apartments for people on lower incomes.
The project is being financed by a $10.5 million State Government capital grant and the Infrastructure Development Fund, with $500,000 allocated to cover the upfront costs of connecting to utilities.
In addition, $49.5 million in capital and operational funding has been provided through an $18.4 million Housing Australia Affordable Housing Bond Aggregator concessional loan, together with $31.1 million from the Housing Australia Future Fund.
Bethanie Community Housing Interim CEO Lindsay O'Sullivan welcomed Josh Wilson MP; Minister for Planning and Lands; Housing and Works; and Health Infrastructure John Carey; Minister for Creative Industries, Heritage, Industrial Relations, Aged Care and Seniors, and Women Simone McGurk and City of Fremantle Mayor, Benjamin Lawver, to celebrate the announcement.
The estimated completion date is in 2027.
