Village veteran Chas Jacobsen spends rumoured $33M personal cash extending his backyard with former Ansett estate in Mt Eliza

1 min read

The 22.3ha block adjoins the 11.7ha Gunyong Valley estate that Mr Jacobsen bought from the estate of the late Lady Joan Ansett for $14.5 million in 2006 for his private home and has direct access to Moondah Beach.

While the price is confidential, Village Glen CEO Peter Nilsson told the local paper that Mr Jacobsen was “happy with the purchase and the price he paid”.

“He farms cattle there [on his adjoining block] and so we can presume that will continue.”

The land had previously been mooted by the Ansett Trust as a potential redevelopment site for commercial, hospitality or healthcare and Mornington MP David Morris says it’s “encouraging” the purchaser “is someone with a great understanding of the significance of this parcel of land”.

It’s also adjacent to the former Moondah Estate which NZ operator Ryman is redeveloping into a co-located village and aged care site.
