A Victorian state MP has called on the Andrews Government to fund the redevelopment of the publicly-owned Numurkah Pioneers Memorial Lodge aged care home, around 40km north of Shepparton.

Built in 1976, Numurkah Pioneers has 34 permanent beds, plus two respite care beds and two transitional care beds. Residents have their own single rooms with ensuites.

The operator is NCN Health, created by the voluntary amalgamation of Nathalia, Cobram and Numurkah health services in July 2019.

Wendy Lovell, Liberal Member for Northern Victoria, has urged State Health Minister Martin Foley to fund an upgrade for the facility, saying that while NCN Health does a good job of caring for residents, more modernised facilities would deliver improvements to residential aged care for the Numurkah community.

“The Minister must provide the necessary funding to NCN Health to deliver this vital infrastructure project.

“The redevelopment of Pioneer Memorial Lodge is badly needed, and I urge Mr Foley to work with NCN Health to make the project a reality,” she said, adding that there was “genuine disappointment” in the community when funding for the project was left out of this year’s State Budget.
