Catholic Healthcare’s Andrew Kinkade to finish Newmarch House adviser role one month early – families told prior to Four Corners report

The Not For Profit’s General Manager of Residential Care had been appointed to the role for three months on 7 May – after the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC) threatened Anglicare with regulatory action if it did not appoint an independent adviser on just 24 hours’ notice.

The appointment – which only extended to the Western Sydney home – had been due to wrap up on 7 August, but Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner, Janet Anderson PSM, announced last Friday that as the outbreak was now officially over, Mr Kinkade would finish his role this week.

In a letter to families, Ms Anderson praised Mr Kinkade for his “instrumental role” in managing the outbreak.

“Some of the areas where he has guided improvements, working with senior staff on site, and in Anglicare, include quality and safety of care, infection control, and communication with residents and families,” she said.

The Commissioner assured families the situation at the home would continue to be monitored through to August 2020.
