CEO Byron Cannon reveals LDK Seniors’ Living has two sites under contract

CEO Byron Cannon says LDK Seniors’ Living is planning “a big year” as he revealed the company has two sites under contract to expand the business.

“The first is a premium location in Canberra spread over 54,800sqm and will yield 326 homes in a mix of villas, sky villas (larger villa type accommodation), large apartments down to 24/7 dementia and high care studios. We are in the final stages of securing a Works Approval and hope to achieve that in the coming months so we can settle and start construction,” said Byron.

The Weekly SOURCE reported in October last year that LDK Seniors’ Living had applied to the National Capital Authority for permission to build a $143 million multi-storey village on 5.4ha of land near Yarralumla. The NCA agreed to allow a retirement village on the site, with a 99-year lease in 2015.

“The second, in Brisbane, will be a new location for us. It’s 7km from the CBD and on 7,000sqm. It will 243 homes in a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments in three buildings up to nine levels. It will include 24/7 dementia and high care studios. We hope to lodge a DA in the coming months with the Brisbane City Council and start construction at the back end of the year.”

LDK Seniors’ Living is now selling the remaining two of the five buildings at Greenway Views (pictured), its first purpose-built village in Tuggeranong, Canberra.

“We have our first residents moving in from mid-March. Stage 1 won the National Property Council Award for Best Sustainable Development in December. It also won ACT Development of the Year last year.

“Our sales at Greenway Views are going really well, despite losing four months of sales momentum since July last year due to COVID-19 lockdowns. We have had record enquiry weeks in February. February is also the best month we have had to date for tours. We sold eight apartments in one week, a fortnight ago,” said Byron.

“The Landings at North Turramurra (20km northwest of Sydney’s CBD), is also going really well. It sits at 100% occupancy with a long waiting list. In January, we received resident approval to convert an apartment into a respite and higher care offering, which really enhances our One Move Promise at that Village. We also received resident and Council approval to upgrade the Clubhouse there, which will be a $2.5 million investment into the village.”
