$66M SummitCare Penrith overhaul to deliver 93 seniors units and new care rooms

1 min read

Family-owned aged care operator SummitCare has lodged a State Significant Development Application to transform its Jamisontown site in Penrith, 55km west of Sydney’s CBD, into a mixed seniors housing and care facility.

The proposal would see the existing aged care home demolished and replaced with three five-storey buildings containing 93 independent living units and five residential care rooms. A fourth single-storey building would house communal facilities including a kitchen, café, function room, lounge, indoor pool, salon, spa and gym, according to a Scoping Report by The Planning Studio.

Basement levels would provide 117 resident and visitor car spaces, plant and pump rooms, a rainwater reuse tank, waste and storage rooms, and other services. Landscaped gardens, courtyards, fountains, outdoor seating and alfresco areas would surround the new buildings, with existing trees retained.

The site sits opposite Tulich Family Communities’ six-storey retirement living and aged care development, The Royce.

SummitCare said the redesign would “support residents in their wellbeing” and forms part of its broader renewal program, which has already secured development approvals for facilities in Smithfield, Monterey, Casula, Liverpool, Randwick and Waverley since 2021.
