Australia's largest Not For Profit aged care provider has appointed the experienced CEO and executive Olivier Chretien as Group CEO, effective 1 July 2025.

The news follows the announcement last December of the retirement of Group CEO Stephen Muggleton after 14 years in the role.

Chairman Tony Crawford said Olivier’s appointment will ensure continued strong leadership at Bolton Clarke at a pivotal time with the commencement of the new Aged Care Act and as the sector transforms to meet the needs of the ageing population.

“Olivier is a well-respected CEO and executive who comes to Bolton Clarke with significant national and international leadership, strategy and operational experience in the hospital, care, retail and other services industries," he said.

Olivier was previously the CEO of funeral care giant InvoCare, where he led the privatisation of the company from its former ASX-listed status.

Prior to that role, he spent two years as Group Chief Strategy Officer with Ramsay Health Care, overseeing strategy, M&A and innovation across around 500 hospitals, pharmacies, mental health, allied health and primary care clinics in Australia.

Olivier also spent 12 years in senior roles at Wesfarmers and nine years with the Boston Consulting Group.

He has an Executive MBA (AMP) from Harvard, an MBA from INSEAD, a Master of Science, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Olivier said, “I am humbled and thrilled to join Bolton Clarke as it celebrates 140 years of exceptional care to its customers. I have been inspired by the organisation’s purpose and commitment to positive ageing, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a sector which is so critical to our communities.

“I look forward to building on these strong foundations with our 16,000 team members, continuing to leverage technology, innovation and partnerships to grow the organisation sustainably, for the benefit of our customers, employees and communities.”

Under Stephen's leadership, Bolton Clarke grew to be one of the top five retirement living providers in Australia, with 43 retirement villages, and the second largest residential aged care provider with 88 residential aged care homes. In total, the group supports more than 130,000 people.
