Social housing residents move into former Aveo Freedom home in Toowoomba, QLD

1 min read

58 self-contained units have been refurbished and are being reoccupied by people on Queensland Government’s Department of Housing social housing register including elderly, people with a disability, and people from public housing.

The State Government paid $10.6 million for the vacant home, which was part of Aveo’s purchase of Freedom Aged Care in 2016, as the SOURCE reported in May. The 6,200msq property was built in 2005 and was for sale on the open market.

The Toowoomba facility ran on the Freedom model of private aged care under the Retirement Villages Act.

The QLD Government also bought the closed Aveo Freedom Aged Care Clayfield, 6km northeast of Brisbane’s CBD, for social housing in December last year. It has bought or leased four former aged care or retirement villages for social housing.
