The operator of a retirement village developed in three stages – with the first 20 units completed in 1975 – has secured the transfer of an adjoining public open space, subject to conditions.

A condition of the sale of the reserve adjoining Alchera Living’s Weeronga Retirement Village in Willagee, 15km southwest of Perth’s CBD, requires the operator to submit an amendment to rezone the land to Residential R60.

A further stipulation is for Alchera Living to develop a landscape master plan to improve the site’s appearance.

The operator must:

  • identify all trees on the subject sites including assessment of retention value; and
  • highlight proposals for replacement tree planting, particularly in response to recent mature tree removals and future development proposals.

In 2017, City of Melville Council permitted the use of the land to provide temporary site access to a proposed four-storey apartment building at the 84-home retirement village. Alchera Living bought part of the reserve in 2021.

City of Melville Aged Persons’ Homes Trust, trading as Alchera Living, manages independent living homes across four retirement village communities in the City of Melville, including two rental villages.
