Countdown to 1 November: Home care customers “incredibly confused” by co-contributions

1 min read

With the new Aged Care Act just two weeks away, Community Vision CEO Yvonne Timson says the Perth Not For Profit’s priority is helping its 150 Home Care Package clients make sense of new pricing and budgets.

“The difficulty is supporting older Australians to understand the changes in how the budgets work and the changes in the pricing,” she told The Weekly SOURCE. “We might get one member of the family to understand, but often this is a shared decision, making it really difficult.”

To bridge the gap, Community Vision is running information sessions this week and next – open to clients and families, with refreshments – to “ease that understanding,” Yvonne said. “They’re just incredibly confused.”

Administratively, every client needs a new agreement: meetings, signatures, then manual uploads to the system – a considerable task.

On system readiness, Yvonne said processes have been tested with Government systems “as much as we can,” while day-to-day operations are being reshuffled to free resources for the reform rollout in a constant “reprioritisation”.

The immediate focus is implementation, followed by reassessment. “We’ve done as much as we can,” concluded Yvonne. We’re waiting to see what happens. And all we’ve got to do is be there with the customers now.”
